I know it's unfashionable to post a useful reply, but the guys at starbucks are right. It's called jpeg2000 and it's a new standard. I don't know much about it, except that adobe is pushing it http://www.adobe.com/products/ph…. Check it out.

This new format is based on HYPE™ technology. What it does is make an image look bigger than it is.
Made specifically for television graphics and tabloid newspapers this new technology allows you to expand images mentally so that the viewer thinks it's really important.
A test case involving photos of Jasmine Bleeth (post Baywatch) proved that 79% of people asked thought she was more important than she actually is (43% thought she was bigger than Jesus).
God bless HYPE™ technology.

Ever used Fireworks selective JPG format? It kicks ass, especially when using text with flat colors.
