havne't looked at the comparison links yet, but my biggest gripe with asp had always been the ties to a microsoft server (although there are usually projects to port it to linux) and that a lot of asp components have a price on them.
So when you start getting into developing things that you'd rather just grab a known library for over doing yourself, you end up shelling out licensing fees.
I've also found that a lot of asp developers (and cf as well) try to make their learning investment back by charging for access to their tutorials and their libraries / components.
In the php community, there's far more open source projects to work with and learn from, and people are happy to share the wealth of information.
Of course this also means that there's 1000's of poorly formed tutorials out there, but nonetheless, the quality information is still more easily attainable and the community is far more fluid.
As well, php is absolutely just as capable as asp in the 'enterprise' (larger scalable applications), but can be harder to sell to IT managers who actually believe the hype when they read their managerial IT magazines and see fullpage MS spreads.
