If you can find that issue if Under The Radar with him on the cover, pick it up, at least to read the article.
He has, it looks like, been called "the voice of his generation" and being lumped in with Dylan and Springsteen.
And the other thing I don't get, is the praise for his storytelling. I'm on my second listen to the cd, and I have not heard anything yet that really stretches too far from obvious references and interesting situational descriptions.
Every songwriter has their "thing," but personally I've always felt that the best lyrics are the ones that get you thinking about what they really mean, and/or deriving your own meaning. Looking through the lyric book, these look like stories just about anyone could tell, with slightly altered vocabulary.
