I agree, seems a pointless gesture to me.
The minute of silence has been cheapened of late by its over use. You can barely go to a football match these days without observing a silence for someone or other.
My firm has just sent out an email requesting that we respect these three minutes; rememberence day, however, was completely ignored.
The people affected in south east asia have my deepest sympathy, and some of my money, but this silence serves no one.
