it depends on the size of the place you work. A dick in a small group can be very costly to morale, in a bigger agency not such a problem. Personally i've always found it pretty easy to blank out the noise from people I work with. I run a design team for 60-70 and if I got rid of anyone who said something offensive I'd be for ever recruiting. Like most walks of life, if they do the job I pay them to do, within reason i overlook shit.
Its a free country and everyones entitled to their opinion btw... and he has a 'point' about Japan, why not debate it with him. I didn't see anyone falling over backwards helping Pakistan when hundreds of thousands died in that earthquake last year. If we're helping Japan like most things in this world is because there's something in it for the countries that help out.
Personally I like the cut of his jib, joins an agency and says something provocative and pisses people off. I've always loved people who like an argument, it makes them a good creative
