  This is what I used to create the sound libraries for my final year university project. I'd attribute a good chunk of it's success and smooth running to this little Flash App!

  • Get Max MSP or PureData. It is stupidly easy to pick up and create awesome stuff in.
    
    A coursemate pretty much created his own personalised version of ableton live using Max MSP.
