Don't bloody use WEP, if that's what you're doing - shit's a deprecated platform and is hackable in minutes.
Just check that none of your network is trying to use IPV6 where it can't (esp. if your Dad's machine is Vista).
As someone running a network with a mix of about 15 PCs and 20-odd Macs, I'd recommend setting IP addresses for each machine - my experience is that trying fancy things like Dynamic Addressing is where problems come from.
