I prefer the old layout + it can't display on a 1024 wide screen without scrolling which is unforgivable imo.
The look is very generic -> with a couple of 'web 2.0' style elements thrown in to trick the viewer into thinking it's all good. There's nothing distinctive or consistent enough to tie it all together.
Mainly, I think the execution is shoddy... those block-level elements cut straight across the page-margin in FF3.. not sure if that's the intention -> either way it's bad.
