It's hard for McCain bc he really has to shore up his weaknesses (economic and conservative bonafides) without scaring away the middle of the road Reagan democrat moderates who have always genuinely liked him. The usual strengths the Republicans have are working against him in this matter....he should pick a whipsmart moderate right guy,but then he would lose even more appeal among the religious right and hardcore red meat conservatives...
