CBC did the only thing it could. Why would a station which is subsidized by taxpayers that struggles as it is (and produces bullshit programming to boot) pony up 3 mil (or $500 a pop) for a song that it plays 4 times a week? No matter how many times we're fed the tripe about the tradition of it all 3 mil is a ridiculous amount of money to pay for the rights to a song. Why isn't anyone harping on the lady who owns the rights? If everyone thinks it's so important to have it on CBC, why wouldn't the onus be on her to make it happen? To borrow a phrase from Don Cherry himself, how "un-canadian" of her.
The song is going to lose its mystique on another network, anyway.
So... I heard the CBC is going to hold a nationwide competition to find a new song. Anyone can enter and the winner gets $100,000. Should be interesting to see.
On a possibly unrelated note: is it just me, or is hockey not as important in this country as it used to be?
<< wow. i've had waaaay too much to drink >>
