AFAIK the Queen actually has governing power in Commonwealth countries, ie. she sent a Governor to Australia during a political crisis in the 70's.
I used to think conserving British Monarchy was a laughable idea. Now I think it is a very wise concept. Monarchies functioned well during roughly 90% of the history of countries. Democracy as we know it today is a pretty modern idea and the ancient ones have failed.
By keeping the Monarchy the British have a plan B for when democracy fails again.

    • Not only that, it prevents having 300 greedy politicians who behave like kings.
      ********
    • She didn't send a governor to Australia in the 70s. She doesn't have *real* power in Australia...ribit
