In case anyone cares, I got the spare key, the other half of the key was NOT in the ignition cylinder thankfully and yes, I do drive a car in NYC.
The only downside is my spare key doesn't seem to unlock the drivers side door for some reason, so I am unlocking the passenger door and crawling over to the other side. Good times.
