THE DIRTY WATER CLUB this FRIDAY
In The Boston Music Room, 178 Junction Road, Tufnell Park N19
Friday 6th July
WILD BILLY CHILDISH & THE MUSICIANS OF THE BRITISHEMPIREBilly Childish's current band, The Musicians of the British Empire, features fellow Buff Medways man Wolf Howard on drums and Buffet Nurse Julie on bass. Every so often, Billy Childish is cited by some top-selling or influential band of the moment as the embodiment of rocknroll
integrity (which, of course, he is). And every so often, Billy splits his group up and starts again from scratch. With his latest combo, Billy
carries on his tradition of home made punk and rhythmnblues, singing odes
to Joe Strummer and nodding to the Who, whilst showing the next generation what a real rocknroll group sounds like. Album out now on Damaged Goods.THE SURGENS
Unfairly depicted as a demented novelty act recently escaped from the
country blues mental ward, Mark Lamarr favourites The Surgens are in
actuality a top-notch rock & roll combo, playing primarily twisted blues
rock and roll in a surfing honky tonk style. They draw on the influences of
american roots music and rock n roll, then mix it up with beefheart style guitars riffs and Pixie-esque arrangements. They sound like they've could
of fallen out of a Tarentino movie. "The Surgens are like the house band on
that Mississippi steamer drinking on the Devils tab." Stu Gibson,sleazegrinder.com
