It all depends on the person and culture. Some people look good with jewellery, some don't. Personally, I'd prefer that a guy doesn't have more than a girl may have.
And piercings look juvenile unless they're on the ears or something (not all over your face or nipples). It's a bit different for a girl though.
Nevertheless, there should be some moderation for both sexes.
