    you clean the sensor with pressurized air or one of those pear shaped pumps. the mirror has to be up - in most cameras there is a setting for that, if not, use bulb mode. if using canned pressurized air, make sure you spray any condensation away first, you don't want to wet the inside of the camera.
    don't touch the sensor - if blowing doesn't help, seek more professional help.

    limited shots - other than shutter dying from mechanical wear, there is no such thing. canon shutters used to last anywhere from 20k to 150k shots about 3-5 years ago, don't know about current models. i think they introduced shutter warranty at one point.
