I think what he was saying is that there are known proofs and unknown proofs, and some proofs we know we don't know, and some proofs we know we know, and some proofs we know we will never know, and some proofs we know we will know even if they are currently unknown. But at the end of the day you go to war with the proof you have, and not with the proof you want.
