My favorite soulpatch reference is the bullion cube. When hobos would be eating soup all messy like and it would drip into the patch of hair, they could suck on it later on in the day, just like a flavorful bullion cube.
Well, I suppose hobos would have fuller beards, but that particular area is easier than stuffing the whole beard in your mouth and sucking on bits of dirt and dead mice.
