the mp4's i encoded for my mates ipod video wouln't work on my psp. i had to download PSPWare from Nullriver to get them to work. PSPWare has been good to me so far although to convert dvd's you have to use MacTheRipper>Cinematize(for best results) then PSPWare.
if you've already encoded a load of MP4s just drag them into PSPWare and it re-encodes them to psp friendly mp4.
