We have a book shelf in our bathroom. One of the most enjoyable things in life is doing a #2 and catching up on the article or chapter you meant to finish. Also, if you live with someone it's your only alone time with yourself. Your girlfriend needs to experience it and then she will soon understand.
Also, my old cat Tibby RIP used to wee into the toilet, perched on the side. She also did the same to our potted plants. Too funny
