I plan to start doing some 'vlogging'. Hate that word but videos of me talking at my desk, mainly, with some timelapse and city shots as well. Maybe a few interviews. I want to get something under £300 to begin with as I don't really know if it's something I definitely want to pursue. If it is i'll invest in a better camera further down the line. For now I'd like some advice on good budget video camera with ability to take nice photos too...
I guess the key things are video quality, microphone quality or ability for external mic, price and size.
My options so far ar...
Sony RX100 mk1 - looks good but not sure if it's that good in 2018, considering it's from 2012 and there are 4 later models.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX800 - looks good too
Canon EOS m10 - looks interesting. Maybe not the most practical but for some reason it's the one I'm leaning towards
All seem like nice, small, good budget video machines.
Any advice on which one or any other suggestions more than welcome

Another option is the Sony DSCWX500

Would seem initialy like maybe the RX100 would be a better choice than this but someone told me the microphone on this is superior

Buy a little field recorder to record the audio then overdub over video. Will give you better audio quality.
Even get a lapel microphone .- get a lapel one, my st-1 sucks!helloeatbreathedrive
- & learn the hipass filter settings shit with the field recorder or it will be wasted $$$$

when i first started I bought mass amounts of gear, lights, cranes, shotgun mics, cameras for different scenarios, etc, so much bullshit,
what I've learned over the years is (for myself anyway) lighter is better, if you want to shoot daily, its going to be very overwhelming and less motivating if you have to haul a bunch of shit around every fucking time.
as i started to lighten up my load I gradually shot a lot more.

GoPro and good mic?

Order of priority, buy best mic/recorder you can afford, get good cheap ring light, then with money left over a camera.

I'd imagine you'd be better off spending money on lighting and a mic - afaik (v little, tbf), a number of people I follow on YT just use GoPros or whatever the modern equivalent is. Something small enough to put in front of you and move around 'easily'.
- My point is - sound is important. Nothing more distracting than some hollow mic or the sound of chafing fabrics or echoing roomsdetritus
- I realise now this is what everyone else has pretty much written too. Video is cheap tech these days, it's not the lynchpin widget.detritus
- I have a good mic and light already, but thanks...ADP

Can't speak to the others, but I use the RX100 mk1 daily and it is a superb camera. If you plan to use it in the field the damn thing is nearly indestructible as I've dropped it countless times from standing height and it still works flawlessly. Though, if you need a tilt screen, the mk2 would be a proper choice as the mic and video quality are excellent.
- Thanks. Yea I didn't realise the mk1 didn't have the flip screen until last minute. I almost went with it.ADP

- Good choice. Ive got the a6000 - swear by sony cameras!microkorg
- It doesnt have audio-in though for external mic eh? only for sony mic. buy a field recorder for audio then overdub.microkorg
- Yea I have a mic I can use with it. Had to make certain sacrifices at this price point and mic in was one of the less important...ADP
