Wife and I are slowly making some decisions about decorating the house we bought about 7 months ago. Been browsing Etsy, Pinterest, other sites for cool watercolor-esque paintings, canvas, etc. Stuff like this:

^ Our dilemma is trying to find a balance of my own photography, and stuff by other people.
I think we're going to use some of my own plant and foliage images, maybe make them monochrome, or match accent colors with transparent color overlays on some of these. My wife likes a lot of this stuff I shot.

If you're going to spend some money an art, instead of buying prints, why not go out and support your local artists?
It's common for people to paint impressionistic, abstract, landscapey looking paintings, so you could probably find some around.
It ties you more to your local place and helps encourage more beautiful art circulating about.

- I'd love to do that, need to find where to start here in Chicago. We went to some art fairs over the summer and a few things we liked were way too expensive. :(mg33
- I've noticed that here around san diego too. But i'm not really in the scene enough to find the hidden gems. One day i'll be able to afford it!capn_ron
