A thread for coding-related stuff - whatever fits.
Web, none-web, ML, Github tidbits, etc.
.
This is interesting. It's early and hacky-looking, quite clunky in many respects and very rough around the edges... but, this could be, to my mind, a sort of half-way house between js coding now and flash in the days of yor. A two-sided development environment mixing pure code and creative-friendly dimensional space to edit by hand.
Also could work as a kind of education-friendly programming-learning tool - the way it analyses what's writ and suggests from it is quite cool. Or perhaps i'm naive.
Anyway. 'Deuce'.

What languages are up for talking about? I use c++, python with git, Qt5, cmake purely on linux. Can't imaging that being very helpful for anyone here though...
Happy to post shit though!

Help getting into Vim:
https://getintodevops.com/blog/h…
Vim is HORRIBLE repeat HORRIBLE till you know it. It's like that horrible teacher you had as a kid that when you left the school confounds - realised was your best teacher. I can't not use it now.
If your interested in the horrors of a complier language - this guy breaks it down well:
https://player.oreilly.com/video…Being dyslexic c++ books are out the window, with so this got me coding my life long app idea (nearly done!). The advanced stuff comes when you need it.
Its not the most advanced but it gets the core concepts in your head one can start coding and build on that. (not free though!)
Git (another its a "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS" then the moment it saves your arse its your best friend. I think of Git as your pillow on your bed. You can imaging being without it till you are without it then you want it back!

I create a remote repo and push to it using Spider Oak (dropbox's paranoid brother) to sync. So I don't have to use public domains for my code.
Linux is the best thing ever. Get Mint and have fun. VM into any pc/mac needs. If you have a PC tower just get another hard drive to test it on. If you have a mac ... just format the bloody thing ;-)

Now on linux ;-)- +1oey
- I used this to start but haven't touch vim in a year now.
https://getintodevop…oey - ^ that one is brilliant!
I've been using Vim solidly for a year and still only scratching the surface. Macros on the fly ... nerd porn!mugwart - Vim can suck my balls.section_014

^^^ Gitlab is a free git hosting platform that supports private repos (unlike Github, which is only free for public repos). Whatever you choose, absolutely use git for any, and all programming projects. There's no reason not too.
- I'm to cynical for that or I'd use that!
Git is fucking essential to your very sanity if you program.mugwart

still pretty light on its features or I'd be all over this.Looks really pretty and definitely has a strong future.
... but java ... thought I can have a c++ back end .... say that when your drunk ;-)

^^^
Light on which features? I use it for web stuff (Go + html + javascript), and don't see much missing. Code completion + any level of error checking as you go. Lots of little packages to install. I prefer it to VS Code (which is also pretty good).
Plus, I've used the PlatformIO package with it to write C++ for embedded applications. Worked pretty good for simple projects.
Haven't tried any Java with it, but I'm only writing Java with Android. And, Android Studio is all you need in that department.

this is key to my software I'm building.mugwart - I have been thinking if its possible to build my own and I think it will be.mugwart

Interesting..
- sorry!mugwart
- ?
I wondered whether you, as someone who perhaps has aspirations of making a text interface has thoughts about this?detritus - I don't care about the whole 'anglo western determinism' angle, more the idea of non Latin input programmingdetritus
- Also, more simply, backwards programming's so metadetritus
- if anything we should abandon psychology/ language in coding. A machine isn't from X. It has its own way of talking/thinking/pro...mugwart
- c/c++ etc are very low levels and the anglo angle is only in the learning really. most shit doesnt make sense what ever language!!mugwart
- I'm new to this level coding and its eye opening. I know think the more upper level scripting languages are so resource heavy its a waste.mugwart
- So yes its important for anyone to read it - but the problem isn't language of the code - its the language of the teaching.mugwart
- but people are free to do as they will! I just want better tools and better code libraries - mainly guis and people to swtich to linux!mugwart
