sick thread, I love the knot in in the wood below the switches. Looking forward to watching this come together.
I've never done a build of mine own but I've helped a few friends in the past. Seems to be pretty satisfying, haha.
set, there's a famous guitar shop here in NYC called Carmine Street Guitars which also makes custom guitars under the name Kelly. He makes them from hundred year+ reclaimed wood from around city. I've been told he just jacks it from demolition sites. Just thought you'd find that interesting. It's a dream of mine to own one but will never happen.
- Wood reclamation from old Victorian homes is a fairly big business over here in Blighty - shit's cured and settled and doesn't budge once cut.detritus
- not to mention churches. i once did a shop interior fashioned from old pew wood. came up right lovely.hans_glib
- Cheers caterpus. Just looking at the Kelly guitars...they look greatset
- ok_not_ok1
- would like to hear that... love goldfoils on semi hollows otherwise i've only played them on short-scale solids like teiscos.kingsteven

Neck finally arrived from Musikraft (ordered about 2 months ago)! Love it, great shape and fret board is made from reclaimed Coney island boardwalk! The XII hockey stick headstocks aren't everybody's cup of tea, fucking love them myself. The body is an old Mex Jag blacktop i picked up on eBay for 70 quid, was sunburst, stripped and reshaped the contours to make it more like the XII body shape.
I am totally shitting it with this build right now. I've wanted a Fender XII for years, could never warrant the £3k+ pricetag. About £700 in right now, still awaiting the pickups from Curtis Novak & Gold anodised pick guard before sending it for paint (Olympic White/ Aged Nitro)
Going and try and get it together this week with a Lace sensor I have lying about... then take it back apart and do final prep for paint. Wish me luck!

Had a busy weekend.
All smooth sailing except the shitty perspex pickguard I spent 2 days making shattered half way through the pickup route... made a wood one to replace it, should have done that in the first place!
Looks a bit daft with the pickup in the middle but will hopefully allow me to measure/ mount the split pickups alongside when they arrive. Strings/ Nut next!

- can't say I'm a fan of the hockey stick, but your enthusiasm makes up for it :)Gnash
- hahah, just working on some headstock decal ideas now. the Fender logo gives it a bit of purpose on the original... http://goo.gl/A5idt7…kingsteven

- heh, that's what i was talking about with the pearloid option on yours... brand new pearloid guard on a relic guitar... where are my shades! age that shit :-Dkingsteven
- also, they really fucked up burning in that logo... looks like somethings living in there! otherwise i like it :-Dkingsteven

Not a build story but this just unfolded -
I was given this Peavey T-15 (1984) from a client of mine that had found it on the curb somewhere in Brooklyn, NY a few years ago. It was sitting in a corner, covered in dust for years so I took it to few guitar shops to get a setup. Some BS'd me and told me to part it out to them for 120 bucks (they said the bridge and neck weren't aligned because someone changed one or the other) or they wanted nothing to with it, said it was trash, then suggested I sell it to them for 80 bucks as-is.
Luckily, I did my research beforehand and knew these were (cheap $300-$400) collector vintage guitars with sick pickups.
Anyway, found strings in my apartment so I strung the low and high E but the action was so freaking high. Tried adjusting the truss rod to no avail.
Was about to give up on it until I found this hole on the back neck plate...
I stuck a hex in there and as I turned it the strings lowered like magic! Plugged it in, fell in love.
They call the T-15 "The Mississippi Mustang" not only because it was manufactured there, but the body, twang, and everything inbetween. Super versatile, short-scale, beautiful guitar.
The action is still a bit high and wondering if anyone has any experience with setting these up or tips on short-scale setups. I'd like to file the nut down but it's the original metallic hardware (has a very Albini/Shellac tone.)
- yeah, that's a neck tilt... fender had them too for a while but they can really fuck up a neck over time, far better to use a shim...kingsteven
- it looks from the screws like the neck has been off at some point... i'd even suggest taking it off and putting it back on concentrating on the rear screws.kingsteven
- really nice though. bridge doesn't look too adjustable, if there's a visible bend on the neck and the trus rod isn't responsive you could be out of luck...kingsteven
