"Burden In My Hand"
Follow me into the desert
As thirsty as you are
Crack a smile and cut your mouth
And drown in alcohol
'Cause down below the truth is lying
Beneath the riverbed
So quench yourself and drink the water
That flows below her headOh no there she goes
Out in the sunshine the sun is mineI shot my love today would you cry for me
I lost my head again would you lie for me
I left her in the sand just a burden in my hand
I lost my head again would you cry for meClose your eyes and bow your head
I need a little sympathy
'Cause fear is strong and love's for everyone
Who isn't me
So kill your health and kill yourself
And kill everything you love
And if you live you can fall to pieces
And suffer with my ghost
Just a burden in my hand
Just an anchor on my heart
Just a tumor in my head
And I'm in the darkSo follow me into the desert
As desperate as you are
Where the moon is glued to a picture of heaven
And all the little pigs have God

I told my gf that he passed away yesterday. She had no idea who he is. Given, she grew up 6 years younger than I did, and never listened to that kind of music. Had to give her a musical tribute playlist education in the car. :(

I've always respected Chris (and Soundgarden) for writing songs that had off beat rhythms and chord progressions, for his ability to write and sing amazingly well and for his demeanor as a front man.
I saw his Songbook tour a few years ago and he brought one of his daughters on stage to sing and play a number. I can't help but think about his family with all of this. So brutally sad.

It's amusing listening to people in my office trying to sound hip and failing when mentioning his death.
- :(
you think they're lamenting his death because they want to seem cool to you?monospaced - No, not at all. It's interesting seeing people drop "hey, Chris Cornell died..." but look puzzled when you respond by talking about his musical legacy.see_thru
- It's just an observation, I'm not being a dick.see_thru

IDK, That last concert sounds pretty good to me for a bunch of 50 year olds who have been on the road singing their hearts out every other night.
I was a pretty big fan of Louder Than Love and Bad Motor Finger at the time. I remeber being in my friend Kevin's house when he played me Louder Than Love for the first time in '89. We were just teenagers and look at as now, old beaten and gray. I know I couldn't hang and give it my 110% every fucking night and I'm 8 years younger than these guys.
Even Spoonman and Black Hole Sun (which I hated at the time) sound good to me today.
RIP Chris.

I watched some of his last show on youtube. It was so obvious he was very depressed. 0 energy on stage. Kinda lagging behind in the songs, not singing on beat or anything. He didnt want to be there.
He ranted a couple times between songs about shit people with healthy minds dont say. At one point he told people its ok to burn their houses down. For no reason, just to do it, because fuck it, why not? He was basically dead already.
- I sensed a bit of this 4 years ago in an Atlanta show. Energy was there but his timing seemed off a bit.Ramanisky2
- Definitely not the same energy as the last time I saw them but that was '92!fooler

My brother put me onto Soundgarden when I was just a kid, and Black Hole Sun & Superunknown were huge for me as a youngster.
Right now I'm lying in a hospital bed having been violently ill for the last 2 weeks, and feeling really old & shit, and then I saw the news about Chris Cornell, and that made me feel even older and shittier =\
RIP to a master of grunge.

I got to make the first Audioslave website while working at Sony Music. Oddly, I never spoke to the artists or management when creating and launching visuals with the exception of Pete Yorn and Tenacious D, nobody even cared to have a say. The music industry is crazy and a lot of the artists in it are severely depressed. I wouldn't be surprised is the Audioslave deal was completely fucked up, as they were the first wave of deals post napster. and they were probably shuffled off and on the shelf after the Japanese sold Sony music to bmg. i wouldn't be surprised if his business had a lot to do with his passing.
- AS was pretty much side project for him. Soundgarden and his solo career were his babies.severian
- Aren't most musicians fairly divorced from the production of their marketing matériel?detritus
- detrius, they have been but that's changing as younger generations are coming up and had hands on their career from jump.shellie
- so many musicians are narcissistic and suffer from manic depressions from a very young age.utopian

one of the first shows i seen as a kid was soundgarden opening up for guns and roses, i remember soundgarden finished their last song naked only wearing inflatable dolls on their dicks. Chris Cornell could sing man, amazing pipes on that dude, not quite Freddie M, but still pretty fucking amazing, RIP and thanks for all the tunes, especially temple of the dog
