Streaming the second episode now.
Ep 1 was full of clunky dialogue, the Klingons have mushmouth, and Starfleet officers nerve pinching/pulling phasers on each other doesn't feel very Trek to me.
- This didn't feel Trek either:
https://www.youtube.…ETM - But the series went on to be fine :)ETM
- I loved that one. A lot of people got squeamish over that but I don't mind a little horror. That was Contagion from season 2. God, I'm a geek.CyBrainX
- This didn't feel Trek either:
- since19792
- I like the nod to da Vincimonospaced
- but is it better than this https://www.youtube.… haha jkOP31
- that was terrible OP31. This one looks westworld/game of throwns inspiredhotroddy
- I love the Enterprise intro IF YOU MUTE THE SOUND. That's the worst song of the millenium.CyBrainX

↑ It looks good with colours inverted too ↓

First episode was pretty entertaining. I liked the look and feel of the show. The opening theme and titles were pretty awesome. Dialogue was a bit clunky, but I'll be on board for this first season to see where it goes.

I am concerned about too much of the war narrative taking away from what Trek does best, but still hold out hope. Otherwise it was good.
Not being in the US, I can watch it on regular TV or local streaming service, so there is no investment to stick with it or not.

Just finished Ep. 2, I am liking this new Trek much more than I thought I would.

But a strange mechanism that we spend the first 2 episodes starting to familiarize ourselves with a ship and crew, then we will be forced to start over again with a new set of characters for ep. 3.

- I think it was their goal all along. As prosthetic art evolves, klingon's will look more alien. Who wants an alien race to look like we do?hotroddy
- There was an Enterprise episode that explained how a virus altered Klngons genetically after Kirk's era.CyBrainX
- The Discovery writers said there will be an explanation for their version too.CyBrainX
- Wasn't the genetic virus caused by Tribbles?Akagiyama
- It was caused by Data's creator, Noonian Soong. His genetic alterations to humans created a virus that spread to Klingons.CyBrainX

- ^^the makeup seen in the films and the later series would have been too expensive during the 1960shotroddy

- John Tesh was a halodeckKlingon in Worf's right of ascension ritual. Iggy Pop was an alien and Mick Fleetwood was a fisheaded alien. I could go on.CyBrainX
- I remember Iggy Pop in DS9... didn't know about John Tesh or Mick FleetwoodPonyBoy
- Christian Slater, The Rock, Kelsey Grammer, Adam Scott, Andy Dick, Tom Hardy, Ron Perlman, Sarah Silverman, heck, Kurtwood Smith was 3 different characters.Akagiyama
- Clint Howard played 2 characters separated by 30 years. Ashley Judd, Terri Hatcher, Terri Garr, Jean Simmons brought down bigger men than Picard, Lurch, RiddlerCyBrainX

i like how the orville fills in all the humor we're missing from the new star trek
- Fuck Seth McFarlane. Any one of us can impersonate Shatner and quote Star Trek for a living.CyBrainX
- and we've had enough buffoonery (in the guise of humor) in Star Trek. That's how you end up with Kirk as a woman, twice.CyBrainX
- Orville is actually quite a surprise. Good stories with mostly subtle humour so far. Episode 3 was pretty deep.ETM

Questions... does this take place in JJ abrams universe? Or is this regular cannon?
If the latter, where does this fall into the timeline between series?
- CyBrainX1
This explains pretty much everything.
http://time.com/4952491/star-tre…As young as Sarek looks he's only 10 years away from a heart attack.
- CyBrainX1
I have to say, using Sarek as a mentor for the main character is very cool. As a lifelong fan, I pretty much wet my Star Trek pantaloons.

It sucks

- Considering how polarizing Star Trek is, I'm pretty impressed this is the first dislike I've seen.CyBrainX

I think it's great overall. The dialogue is pretty lame at times but visually it's superb and the story is fairly interesting so far. I look forward to more...
