not bad. i don't care for the rims but the rest is kind of nice
- Yeah. This drawing is a bit too on the unnecessarily spacey futuristic side of design. Some more classic rims would really help. Being back chrome trim!!!monospaced
- the wheels are the only bit i like.detritus
- Those kinds wheels never look as good in person as they do in renderings like this though.monospaced
- yeah, i said as much below - they always look so cool in cgi. nup, not real.detritus
- they don't look good on grey tires and i can only imagine they'll look worse on standard black with a much wider profile.kona
- The old wheel design would look better on it, otherwise really nice I think....set

I prefer the old 21 window one.
- yeah, needs split safari windows in the front and skylights along the top.johnny_wobble
- they at least need that sharp early 20c. point in the front, under the logo.detritus
- and when are those wheels ever going to happen, like that as rendered? pfft.detritus
- I do like that they are making a new one. I just prefer cars built before the 80s.instrmntl

It really needs the circle headlights to maintain the charm of the original. If they keep that they can stray elsewhere more easily in my opinion. Needs chrome.
- that's it! it has no charm.
none at all.detritus - yup. agree about the circle headlightsdbloc
- Agreed. The new Beetle does it right, in my opinion. Modern, recognizable, and almost as charming as the original. Hopefully they reign this in.monospaced
- new one has a muted angry face. it's crap.fruitsalad
- that's it! it has no charm.

Problem with the new one vs the older tech ones is simplicity.
The old ones are a simple system, simply built. Meaning you can easily fix one up yourself.
Newer cars use increasingly sophisticated materials and manufacturing processes, as well as complex smartphone like electronics which mean completely rules out any chance of self maintenance. You won't be able to buy 2020 VW 25 years later off eBay, source a few spare parts, do a bit of diy and get it up and running again.
So then you can ask,are we actually making an eco friendly car? If we make electronic cars infinitely complex and autonomous, how will we, the average public, be able to cheaply fix thump 25 years later ourselves?
It's going to be like current iPhones and MacBooks. sophisticatedly manufactured and glued together, with no user maintenance. Which means when it breaks, you bin it...
I got to say, i'm not happy with these modern designs. It's feels like it follows apples closed system, keeping users out. They need to at least make it modular so that it's easy to switch out the engine, the brakes, the dashboard etc.
- sorry my typing skills are not good todayfruitsalad
- but it's made of batteries and computers, you can't expect low-level tech like that in 2020 and beyondmonospaced

Literally featureless. Don't understand how they can mock it up next to the old one and not notice that it's devoid of any personality - the whole point of the original.
