I have a letter that was converted to outlines, and it is using compound paths. This is causing a real problem when I try to import this into 3DS Max.
How do you get rid of the compound paths. Im not an AI expert obviously.

object > compound path > release

When I do that to the middle part, it does this. Thats not what I need. I need both the inside and outside parts of the D to be regular paths.

Im basically trying to get what you see in Illustrator in the first pic I posted, into 3DS Max and extruded. So its just extruded outlines of the D. If someone knows another way to do this, Im all ears.
Tried to do the text in 3DS max but there doesnt appear to be a way to turn it into 3D outlines.

releasing it should make both parts a path. you've just got the middle shape filled with a gradient. i could help you deal with it if you were importing to cinema4d, can't help with the max.

do what johnny says, then select the output and set the resultant two pieces to have the same style - ie, a stroke and no fill.

Ah got it! I dont even need illustrator. If you do the text in 3ds max, convert it to an editable spline, there is an outline option in there.
