man lots of work there! Really cool!
But I always wonder, when you dont have the rights to sell stuff from a movie, series or else, can you have trouble with that?
- I did a similar site for True Detective. While the art is derivative, I do not own the rights to the characters. Having said that, the prints will be gone soon.electricheat
- Yeah, it's pretty much stealing from those who, you know, actually came up with the idea.zarkonite
- Oh chill out. Ha. I am not taking screenshots and printing them. Its inspired art. Its everywhere. Not the only one doing it. And people enjoy it.electricheat
- Come up with your own characters and advertising and then we'll see. You're taking all that hard work from people who busted their asses to get this done andzarkonite
- profiting off their labour without compensating them.zarkonite
- Have a good day :)electricheat
- Laterally, homegrown lo-scale diy'd artwork grassroots markets stuff like ST on the internet, reciprocating favouir and encouraging more of the samedetritus

I did a similar site for True Detective. HBO and the creators had no problem with it. Saw it as good promo. While the art is derivative, I do not own the rights to the characters. Having said that, it could be a matter of time before the store is down.
- And why wouldn't you ask for permission? Maybe you could actually partner with them!zarkonite
- It was a timely thing. I did actually work with the Arte network to create this site: http://peakyblinders…electricheat

''The messy World of Fan Art"
https://www.plagiarismtoday.com/…There's a lot of article about on Google.
It's a grey zone as i understand... kinda unclear. It's illegal in fact but tolerate i guess.
- Didn't you just last year do a load of badges that technically used other peoples IP?detritus
- I made 5 pins inspired by Kubrick's movies yes. Didnt have any problem on etsy yet. didnt sell a lot either.Bennn
- It's not hard to ask for permission, the author has the right to do what he wants with his own work. It's usually ok but being underhanded about it is not.zarkonite
- The entire internet is a gray area. People reposting images on their blog, all that music uploaded on YouTube. The laws are behind the times.yuekit

My only issue with this thread is that I've not yet seen the fucking thing, but know there's definitely an alien, and there's a scene where someone importants van sinks.

Did Dustin go on a diet after the show? Nice work!

and i say it again electricheat, nice work, really like the website and illustrations.
Sorry to have bring the copyrights issue, but i think QBN is a good place to have some reminders and inputs sometimes. I've done the same last years with button pins taking Kubrick's movie elements en stuff.

eh, I don't see the value in jumping down the throat of an independent artist for making small runs of art pieces that revolve around some contemporary cultural touch-point.
As anyone who's actually tried knows, getting permission to do this stuff is impossible without either a boatload of cash up front, or some well-known artist to 'best represent' the intervening layers of rights holders (ie. media conglomerates) profit expectations.
Sure, if she was making her entire living off this, all the time, perhaps not cool - but really, the peripheral marketing from stuff like this is useful to the publisher, and a small ego-boost to the actual creatives and authors is probably preferable to all concerned.
- Besides which - if you knew how much money 'beloved' illustrators make from unofficial private commissions, your ire would be projected elsewhere...detritus

I feel like they need faces
- Also, more variation in the bodies. They are all the same height and weight. Barb, we know, had a much different body type.monospaced
- They did have faces in the show, I think.dopepope
- faces would ruin the illustration style. people tend to get locked into emotion with eyes and mouth. this keeps it minimal imolvl_13

Well well, as it turns out I was right and they don't like it when people steal their intellectual property for their own profit:

"You’re obviously creative types, so I’m sure you can appreciate that it’s important to us to have a say in how our fans encounter the worlds we build."
- Of course not, that was a prominent public commercial cash-in. A bit of difference to some artist drawing shit.detritus
- Sorry, 'an artist interpreting shit'detritus
