iMac so Slow?????

I have a 2010 iMac and run Adobe CS6. It was great for years, but lately, it's just been so slow for everything like Chrome and Illustrator and Youtube sometimes. I reset it and everything works alright, but as I open and close apps during the day, it just gets slow.

I thought it was my font management, but then stopped using FontExplorer and it's not getting faster.

I have an external drive attached at all times for time machine - does that mess it up?

Is it just time to buy a new machine or can I reset this one? Or can I add more ram at computer repair shop?

Make sure your RAM is maxed out, use an SSD if you can, ensure there isn't tonnes of useless apps and files floating around via clean OS install perhaps. Failing that, upgrade your machine to recent ninja standards.

...by upgrade your machine I mean get a new machine, so fresh and so clean.

RAM+SSD, just received today a 512GB Samsung 850 Pro and 4 8GB memory modules for my gf's mid 2011 iMac, it will make a huge difference.

Check your model to see how much RAM it can take and max it, add an SSD, if you aren't comfortable with disassembling the iMac (screen, etc) ask a friend that knows or send it to a shop.

    • I was surprised this model accepts 32GB of RAM, according to Apple it's 16GB but people discovered 4x8GB works flawlesslyernexbcn
