I'm losing ambition with the day job.
I used to love moving my career forward, taking risks, failing fast, etc, But these days the work that takes feels exhausting.I'm starting to see a lot of comfort in simple, predictable, mundane tasks.
Classic burnout I suppose.

- This is a thing for us. We could start an entire thread figuring it out because I don't think it's an "I" thing, as much as it is an "us". We need to strike...canoe

- Hearing this. I remember some one he said they quit and took delivery driver job of something which sounds so appealing/refreshingdee-dubs
- so you just turned 30 is what you're saying?ArchitectofFate
- Heard about a graphic designer becoming a bus driver. He loved it because he knew what he was exspected to do, and it wasn't mentally taxing.Nutter
- @dee-dubs I think that was Horp.Continuity
- This is one of those things that can happen at any stage of life. Take time off, re-inspire yourself, get outside, physical activity and all the other cliches.CyBrainX

After a conversation over many mojitos i received a text this morning from a great friend of mine. We have known each other for 35 years. We have walked the mountain range of life together. We've been there for each other in the dark valleys and the euphoric summits. Our mutual experiences of the sex, drugs and rock and roll of our existence have a certain mythology surrounding them.
His text said, "I thought you'd appreciate this link to an article reviewing the best mattresses for people who sleep on their side." The best fucking mattresses FFS.I appreciate it more than I ever expected.

At the local Renaissance Festival my family and I casually walked passed The Heckler and he shouted, "Who's next? How 'bout you, Baldspot?"
"Hey, don't talk to my wife that way!" Ha, I said no such thing.
- it would probably be your last words :)zaq
- "Keep my wife's name out your fucking mouth!" would have gotten you a free pass with your wife.palimpsest

I bent over to pick up laundry off of the floor Monday morning and felt a little pop in my lower back. 1 hour later I was in debilitating pain and couldn't stand up. I spent 3 days in the hospital flat on my back.
- That’s called the grandpop pop ‘n lockprophetone
- My lower back does that all the damn time, from doing minor things. It suckssssselahon
- once a sneeze threw out my back for like a weekYakuZoku
- I had back pain for a period of 2-3 years, it went over by itself and never bothered me again, I dont know why or howdrgs
- This happened to me trying to suck my own dick once.Khurram

- Talk to an osteopath or sports physio. Do not have any dealings with chiropracters, they are unqualified quacks.comicsans

- I couldn't stand for more than 15 minutes for 2 years. Now I do yoga several days a week.formed
- My back problem was resolved after pilates. Core strength around the waist most probably.comicsans
- < this. I do 5 slow push-ups if I grunt while picking up a dropped thing. It's OCD, but your core is everything. Also knees bend before the spine.garbage

The only advantage of being myopic ;)OBBTKN - What you sewing pamp?garbage
- Just mending nowadays, Santa never brough me the sewing machine. Started making zipper pouches with my MIL's machine and doing sashiko on them a few years ago.palimpsest
- Nice. I'm embarrassed, but not too proud to admit it took me too long to realize MIL's wasn't a brand. My mom quilts, it was a family thing.garbage
- I have a tattered-ass quilt that's literally from the Civil War era, and it need some work. Think my great great gran made it?garbage
- It's literally a museum piece, and it's currently.. protecting the screen of a spare flatscreen in my closet.garbage
- Eventually I'm going to make a frame for it. My mom went apeshit when she found out I was actually using it.garbage
- Yeah, protecting a screen was a bit too much. I think having it over you bed would have gone down better. But you're making up for it with the frame!palimpsest
- I loved tattered fabric, that's why I'm practicing sashiko. My sewing is still wobbly but my goal is to build a boro jacket from my own tattered clothes.palimpsest

I also work with a bunch of graphic designers, 20-30YO. Their skills range, some are very good. Excellent, even.
Working on some substantial brochures/catalogs with lots of information to convey. Decent budget with high-end finishes, etc. It's a really legit & fun opportunity. I find out NONE of them give 2 shits about grid systems.
I pull out books by Joseph Muller Brockmann, Wim Crouwel etc. for a bit of inspiration/educational time. NO ONE has even heard of them. They go on paging through the books with looks of subtle amusement, then set them down and go on their way designing without ANY fucking grids.
Makes me wonder what the fuck I'm even doing anymore
- you should do the grid system and let them fill stuff in :-)
Did you ever notice that Brockmann published a manual for industry users on how to use grids.uan - it's like a template. layout thinking boiled down to some rules, with solutions for common problems.uan
- Like no standard columns or margins?! WTFmonospaced
- Not only as a designer, also as a consumer, I find grid systems very pleasing. So, I don't understand the young designers.SimonFFM
- grid systems don't let me express my feelings through art thodoesnotexist

I work with some 22-26 y/o fellows that never studied editorial design. I mean, they put up layouts for digital stuff like commerce and landing pages, but have NEVER had an infatuation with Emigre, Raygun, The Face, i+d, Print, or shit. They just fucking exist and make me feel old and grumpy.
- i am treated like a sad mystical wizard who is called in when shit hits the fan and or the project is near catastrophic failurejonny_quest_lives

- if you care about some but not all of them is that ok :D fuckin hate raygunArchitectofFate
- How do you NOT know what Emigre and Raygun are? I mean, do they even know what kerning like a bitch means?maikel
- Embrace the idiocracy while you can, AI will make them all irrelevant soonBluejam
- All those fantastic magazines date back to 25 years ago. The challenge lies in your hands to present them in a captivating and valuable mannerSlashPeckham
- Still see some nice magazine designs these days. Nothing groundbreaking but well designed.microkorg
- Can AI kern like a bitch? can it?
utopian, let us know.monospaced - lol i fucking hated editorial design.sted
- Baseline too...wordssssss
- I was chatting to a young designer today who just uses Canva, she was saying since leaving college it's easy to smash designs out in that. And fuck adobe.PhanLo
- Canva is for marketers who don't have budget for real designers, and who are happy to settle for absolute shit.monospaced
- An old school mate was using Canva to do his menus for his take away and his instagram posts. I still use Illustrator, hehe.PhanLo
- A good designer can get by in canva, but it isn’t a standalone by any means.monospaced

Pee and check if you have to poop before you leave, pee when you arrive at the place, pee before you start heading home, pee when you are back at home
