I have one.
there is not options for editing the QOS (Quality of Service) tho.Say, if you want to attribute more bandwith to your video content, vs all the people in your house using their iphones or ipads or whatnot, you cannot do that. Very useful for torrenting/popcorntime and such.
- and this option is available on the cheapest of routerlajj

Why do you need an Apple router?
- They seem to work better with macs in my experience. That's why I was asking for suggestions.dbloc

side note to this convo: i have an external hard drive connected to my airport extreme...but i can't get it to show up in my shared drives on either of our MacBooks. Anyone have similar issues or can explain to me why I'm dumb and simplify the instructions on how to get it to work for me?

You don't need an Apple router, you just need to configure your Mac so that it doesn't default to the standard Apple Router IP address when it, inevitably, spacks out.
I'm curious about this bad boy...

I replaced my old airport extreme with this a few years ago, and have been very pleased with it. No problems with 4-5 macs on it.
- I second this suggestion. Apple routers are overpriced for the features... this router lets your plug in a hard drive, has better range, etc.zarkonite

- Cons: Slow at 5 feetdbloc
- does that mean it works slow when you are close to it?dbloc
- This router is great, I had it running flawless with around 20+ devices connecting to it. I haven't had an issue with my MBP and it.BabySnakes

Note: if you're mostly using wireless and don't need network drive support, you probably don't need a pricey Airport Extreme, a refurbished Airport Express ($65 in the US) will suit in most cases.
It's marketed as a supporting device, but it is more powerful than it looks. The main difference is it only has one outgoing Ethernet port and no USB drive support (no 802.11ac yet either if you were going to use it). Other than that it is a very capable router.
Fanboyish review:
http://gizmodo.com/5921456/apple…I tried using a popular TP-Link for a while, but it turned out to have a weaker range with its 3 antennas than my 2008 Airport Express and there was an irritating lag with most devices, they took 1-3 seconds to log back into the network after unlocking.
The added bonus of an Airport Express is that it is an AirPlay streamer you can send music to your audio system with from any Mac, iPhone, iPad — in CD-quality.
