I'm new to using Wordpress. I'm trying to set it up locally using MAMP. I've created a database and when I try to type http://localhost:8888/ in my browser's URL the following comes up instead of it allowing me to configure WP:
Not Found
The requested URL / was not found on this server.I've saved the WP files to htdocs in the MAMP application. What am I doing wrong? I've been following along with a video but when they type the above in the URL bar, it allows them to configure as wp-admin

I always create a folder for each project in localhost.
Next install Wordpress in that folder - you don't just save the Wordpress files, you need to edit the wp-config-sample.php file to be wp-config.php with the correct database connection info in it - database name, username, password and host. username if otten root, password blank and host local host - but you do need to put the database name in you have created with PHPmyadmin.
There are tons of tutorials on this online and its v.easy when you have done it once.https://codex.wordpress.org…...

make sure MAMP works first, then install wordpress.

Thought I'd ask in a thread already created:
My client has a WP Blog on WordPress' platform. I'm used to clients hosting their own blogs and so I'm able to edit the files; CSS, PHP, and HTML...
They have a paid Premium acct. How can I help them with the CSS issues without connecting to FTP. WP's CSS editing seems kind of lightweight but I don't know.
Any tips or
links to HOW TO?

Goto admin -> Appereance -> Editor

Oh sh i just realized that you mentioned that editor :))

maybe this one?
but it depends on the theme and how the content was built

Ts it on wordpress.com? if so - it has built in tools for editing files / css etc.
But if self-hosted do as Sted said - but this often does not work as you may need to enter the FTP credentials to update files anyway depending on the server set up.- Not on the clients server. It's on WP's server. @sted will try that link above. Hmm... it's gotta be an easy task.bklyndroobeki
- like I say if self hosted you can edit files from within the wordpress.com admin.fadein11
- the plugin below is more geared up for self hosted wordpress sites I think.fadein11
