I have a large data set of points on a map and a date. I want the points to appear on a map and disappear based on their date over time. Are there any applications that would do this out of the box? I was hoping Google Earth might be of use but I'm scratching my head. Basically this is what I need to do:
(I realize this was done with Processing which I have used, but I would need some direction on how to do this in Processing)

I was going to suggest something like Processing or OpenFrameworks for this. Hell, even Unity game engine would probably work.
Obviously, you would need to write the code for it. Not sure anything like this exists where you just drop in a csv file or whatever.
- I've done a few small Processing projects but I think I would need to find a module or project that has the geospatial code availablespot13

if you need it interactive, take a look at http://www.r-project.org/ and http://d3js.org/, both have mapping capabilities.
the maps will be out of the box, not your application though (maybe you can find a good example you can adapt).

for processing (or other manual methods) you'll need a zipcode to geo map:

http://open.mapquestapi.com/nomi… query here>it returns a json file with lat and lon variables and some other info.
google and open streetmap has similar lookups, but will only allow a certin number of requests per day.
- I have the lat/lng coordinates for the data set, just looking for visualization tools to plot and animate the pointsspot13

Plotly. Haven't used it personally but reading this article with an example similar to what you're looking for...
