    Anyone on it?

I just opt in yesterday and I'm currently uploading all my pictures on it.

It's pretty cool! Good to have a global look on your pictures. When you delete a picture on Google Photos, you have the option to make it delete also on your devices/computer. So its good to clean up your shit. The search tool work like Google Image. If you search ''cats'' it finds the cats in your photos, just by photo recognition. It also build some categories automatically, like "birds", "sky", "forest", "boats", "beach" etc.

It also creates panoramic picture automatically, and its pretty effective. It also build some animated gifs automatically, some are very cool. It also make some photo montage. And he also make some video montage with music. I've got a video montage of my trip to Italy with Beethoven music, its pretty cool :P All those automated creations are suggested to you and you have to approve them with "save" or "delete".

All this is automatically synced on all your devices.

    Nice service Google.

FYI, Google launched a new Photos service. Unlimited upload, totally free for picture under 16megapixels. Over 16 it counts on your Google Drive disk space.

Ooh, yes - I've been waiting years to hoy all of my personal and professional photos into the Googolplex so that it can chew through it all with its image-analysis algorithms and use the resultant data to pin my consumer profile down even more.

    Thanks for the heads up!

    • Oooh, facial recognition, oooh inter-personal network evaluation, ooh, oooh, oooh, quick, where do I sign up again?detritus
    • Oooh harvest my geolocation data, oooh, oooh, oooh, slip right up my bumhole, Googol.detritus
    • depends on what kind of pics you have i guess. Personnaly, i dont really care. And it says you keep all the rights on your pictures.Ben99

My hard drive does a great job of keeping my photos organized.

My brain does a better job of remembering where I was.

    • good for you. Google Photos do a lot better for me.Ben99

Online storage is great for sharing, but not for storing my entire photo library. Until they start handing out 500GB+ of cloud storage, I'm still going to have most of my photos offline. So I end up having two collections: an offline one with every photo I've ever taken and an online one that you limit due to size. This is complicating things unnecessarily. Might as well just keep them on my own property.

    • it's not unlimited?monospaced
    • According to Ben99, it's unlimited for photos under 16MP.nb

since i only began shooting above 12mp this year, this is interesting news. but what i've seen is it's still a little clunky and slow and since I have 150k images to upload if I want—i'm a little hesitant—and that's if I don't take detritus' points into consideration.

    • try it with a few picture to test it. i like it so far. Will make photos searching WAY more easier for me. And accessible from anywhere.Ben99
    • yeah, those are really high selling points. we'll seejaylarson
