the next big thing is Oculus vs glass vs HoloLens vs Samsung Gear VR...
I kinda like all of these concepts and hope this competition coming will point out one true winner with a really great product for us all!

- I'm not saying the final product is bad, just that it's not like what they teased..ESKEMA
- to be fair, Courier was a real product development that Ballmer simply nixed, nothing to do with Surface tablets.detritus
- ..MS has been faffing with touchscreen for over a decade - I nearly bought a Toshiba TS laptop years and years ago.detritus
- You're making connections that don't exist, Courier was canceled... nothing to do with Surface. The original surface was a table, remember?zarkonite

- lol how does it move?set
- but that's not really advertised the same way is it?ESKEMA
- was the microsoft book above annouced as this?mekk
- microsoft was working on the courier to release it. They are working on Hololens to release it. This concept is not being worked to be released.ESKEMA
- worked to be released (the car)ESKEMA

but why?
Just because technology allows something to be made doesn't really mean we need it, or it solves any kind of problems.
Feels like we've hit a point with tech where companies are now trying to find the next big thing.... well the next big thing is starting to look a little silly.
- Remember the days before most people walked the streets, drone-like, staring into small glowing rectangles?detritus

I quite like the idea of sitting on the sofa and having the whole 'wall' as a monitor
- < it's better than that, you can lie in your bed and have it being a stage.uan
- have it being a stage?set
- 'have it being' = 'having' (the bed as stage)uan
- still not following... lol. Stage?set
- a surface for what he's watching, I suppose.. the augmented reality part of itmonospaced
- kinda like the coffee table as a "stage" for mine craft or a projectmonospaced
- Yea. The future is excitingset

And in the meantime Apple is hard at work considering whether or not they should release a 12 inch laptop..

This is what I like about Apple...their new watch, at least I will be able to buy it, with all the features they presented (good or bad)...
- aliastime0
Anyone remember this?
- yup. people were too dumb to understand its awesomeness.mekk
- this was awesome. Where is it now? Should be available to consumers already no?ESKEMA
- it was available, and it was really expensive to produce, I only had the chance to play with just some of them.uan
- mekk, are you suggesting consumer stupidity caused this to fail? lolmonospaced
- It IS available. As a commercial product for restaurants, museums, etc.zarkonite
- < yep, this tech is def. out there... museums etcPonyBoy
- @mono, no it was the devs, ms itself and the companies who could make $$ with it who didn't see the potential.mekk

Why do they always announce shit that doesn't exist, or is no where near ready for public release?

I always wonder why car companies show off these hyper-designed concept cars. Is it to show off how creative and innovative they are or maybe to get media attention on their brand. They never see the light of day at at least not that I can tell. Maybe MS is doing the same thing. Showing off their ability to create a new product or idea but all it shows is their inability to execute the plan.

I don't get why people are bitching about experimental products not being fully implemented. At least companies are taking chances.
Apple's got its business model - wait until someone else innovates, then swoop in and steal it, make it better/more refined and convince everyone it was their brilliance. it's a good, if boring/predictable/safe, business model.
Google and others are experimenting and learning. Just a different business model. One isn't necessarily better/worse than another, just different.
Does anyone see very futuristic car at a show come into fruition? Of course not, but they lead things, get feedback and it is a necessary part of innovation.
- they learnt the lesson

(2012 article)uan - I know where you're coming from, but Apple did dedicate many years of R&D to their products.monospaced
- The ideas weren't always original, but the development was, and so was the execution in most cases.monospaced
- It's just different. I don't know which is better, and no one will, for quite sometime.formed
- What nonsense about Apple, considering the amount of acquisitions Google gobbles up.inteliboy

Looks neat, I wanna try it.

the only bad thing about this is that it will probably only interface with windows phone =S
