I'm pretty rough on my gear and am looking for a waterproof camera bag/housing that is inexpensive but durable and mostly used above water.Suggestions?

I find most of these technical bags a bit much and ugly. I guess it would be nice to have a DaKine or Lowepro for trips and camping or so, but for everyday use and just around the city I really want a Domke. I love the look but I also love the quality build and that you can carry on shoulder. I have found that's the best way, not on my back or slung across my back or on my belt like a fanny pack or any of that shit.
I got one last year which was the F-2 model and I paid about $120 for it through B&H only to receive and have it be way to small for my needs. I ended up sending it back and haven't gotten another one. The one I need is probably over $200 and I just haven't had the money for that. It's expensive but if you think about it it's a great investment for something you use everyday.
They are water proof worn looking canvas and they all even come with a finishing wax oil product to keep applying.
Also if you plan on carrying your MBP with you this may not be the best option I think.

I use the lowepro passport sling for the same equipment as above (same lenses, another body). It feels small, but has lots of space in it.
for more equipment I use 2 lowepro omni travel, that I found on ebay, because they don't make them no more (without the hard shell), I like them more than the backpacks the make nowadays:

Very Happy with my Domke's.... on F2 and one F4AF

I like my ThinkTank bags. Not cheap, but almost indestructable and all come with waterproof bags (in addition to the resistance of the nylon). Worth the investment.

- this bag is great for carrying Shiva stones with magical properties! http://www.empireonl…HijoDMaite
- exactly—kinda nondescript. unlike the domke's (that some have) with their logo on them.jaylarson

Digging this one right now.
I don't do messengers for anything that's somewhat heavy anymore. my shoulders just can't take it,

For what its worth, I use the Niko Pack from Chrome. Its water resistant and fits lots (including laptop if necessary). I carry a d800, 14-24mm, 70-200mm, 24-70mm, and a tripod, and 2 strobes if necessary with batteries, filters, etc. That would be packed to the brim, and it still fits nicely on my back .

Simplicity is the key as when you open your bag you want all your gear readily available. Bags with all nooks and crannies might look cool but i GUARANTEE you you will put away your gear in all kinds of wrong packets so at some point you gonna spend times searching for that spare battery, a cord, or whatever else. So personally i like bags that simply open and give you easy access to everything:
