Yosemite / Wifi / Drops

Yosemite wifi doesn't work on 802.1X networks. Most education networks are this.
Spoken to Apple for three hours, on the phone...All steps inc clean install.
In recovery mode my MBP 2012 won't connect to wifi.
My signal drops when at work but not home - I'm a university lecturer.
Work use 802.1X, same as most in Europe, and it's that which Yosemite has a problem with, and that Apple 'doesn't support'...That's what they said 'we don't support 802.1X networks' after three hours on the phone!!Seems standard wifi connections are fine, 802.11a/b/...n/...ac etc
No fix works, there is no fix. Just hope Apple realises and updates quickly. If you send an email at just the moment it drops, the email is lost and doesn't seem to come back into recovered mail, draft, outbox or sent folders. It just vanishes, which means I can't really email important emails from this computer. Crazy really.
So there. Anyone else get the same?!

I have noticed during a full day of using my machine that I have to restart my wifi connection or switch SSIDs once or twice a day when the throughput on the wifi interface drops to just a few bps, but then it starts working again as soon as it reconnects.
As for your 802.1x problem, I haven't suffered that inconvenience yet. I'm surprised that they're stating that they won't support 802.1x networks given how much Apple equipment is in the education sector, and how many institutions use 802.1x as their authentication protocol. Until a fix is released is there a browser-based email service you can use to send the important stuff? That might help with getting around the dropouts...
- i just have to send important stuff at home. really annoying!craigatkinson

Had this at the office, this helped connecting but I can't promise it will fix the dropouts

thanks. I did that, no luck. Something that made it a bit better was deactivating wifi and creating a new 'wifi2' - still drops but less frequent. Perhaps coincidental.
How Apple can release a new OS without realising this is beyond me. Do they have no testers in education?!- typical apple. forward not back as SJ used to say. this is why i don't upgrade until all bugs are found and fixedhans_glib
- and even then i don't upgrade.hans_glib
- this has nothing to do with Apple, btw, it's 100% user errormonospaced
- in that case craigatkinson is an arse ;) how dare he slag off the mighty applehans_glib
- not at all, nothing about him is an arse, it's just that he is doing it wrongmonospaced
- if he really wanted to connect, he'd contact the system adminmonospaced

urgh.. upgraded today..
everything was super fast, installation a breeze, no issues with wifi..but one of the main programs i use for Vjing VDMX is just crashing constantly..
went to download the Yosemite installer, its telling 9 FUCKING HOURS
to download it.Y U FULL RETARD APPLE?
- Yosemite installer takes 1/2 hr tops on a regular connectionmonospaced
- lol mono, do you ever quit defending apple, the installation depends of his isp/net connection speed, how can you be sure it will take only 30 min?GeorgesII
- well if it's his fucking shit connection, then it has fucking NOTHING to do with Applemonospaced
- I only defend them when people make stupid assumptions, like it's apple's fault for his slow connectionmonospaced
- or that Apple doesn't support 802.1x, which they have since they've been in the .edu world forevermonospaced
- i have a 2012 macbook pro.. and am on Cable in Berlin.. 40-60mbpsautoflavour
- however i get the feeling that its because my app store account is Australian it always wants to revert to the Australian storeautoflavour
- perhaps its sending me the shit from Australia? it would be retarded.. but yep, interweb be fast normallyautoflavour
- hey bitches.. chill.. my connection is nice and fast.. be streaming 4k pron on the regular..autoflavour
- oh wait, no.. im using the 28.8kpbs modem my mum gave me..autoflavour

Apple hasn't supported 801.1x since before OSX 10.3 (Panther) but you can always do a special configuration to support it. Google around.
- 802.1xmonospaced
- It's not automatic as it is, by definition, more secure and designed not to be automaticmonospaced
- its WEP2 Enterprise they say now, not 8021xcraigatkinson
- monospaced0
- there's your answermonospaced
- answer to what?
autoflavour - How to connect of course.monospaced
- Did you think I was talking to you? Awe that's cute. I was actually responding to the original post.monospaced
- fixes nothingcraigatkinson
- prophetone0
fact is, you do not need wifi
- craigatkinson0
Apple have told me they don't support WEP2 Enterprise now...Argh
- chrisRG0
are you in the UK and if so, are you using BT homehub?
I had this issue for ages (Leopard, Mavericks...) this fixed it:
- craigatkinson0
In uk but at university where i work. One major uk / eu network is eduroam, which is no longer stable. Majority of students / staff use it!

What does the system admin say?
- craigatkinson0
They haven't yet. Apple just flat out say they don't / won't and to get the admin to call them. Crazy though because there are so many people using these networks, if each have to contact Apple...! Why can't Apple just revert what ever it is affecting the connection to how they did it in Mavericks, which was just fine.
- I have a feeling that once you contact the sys admin you'll have your problem solved.monospaced
- nope -they blame applecraigatkinson
- craigatkinson0
Looks like apple have recognised the problem with their beta update. Seems Enterprise below 'n' is better than 'n', and having youtube running in the background keeps the connection stronger.
