Whats up with them raising their prices like 3-5x higher... brutal if you were only ever using photos for web shit and never needed high res stuff. What a joke...

They've been on a steady price creep since Getty bought them some time ago.

Lots of other options now that any image costs $45-$50 with them. They converted my credits and where I could get about a dozen small photos for web thumbnails, now I can get 1 image and have 2 credits left over that are useless unless I buy more. Fuck that.
These guys are like iStock 5-10 years ago:
http://www.pond5.com/- pond5 has a lot of the same images and videos for half the cost of istock.evilpeacock

the price increase is a joke. the email they sent out to try and trick you into thinking the "one price for every resolution" is even more of a fucking joke. catering to huge corps and large firms that never look into the costs of said stock photos.
plenty of other places to take our business. it's just really annoying that the main goto places we are used to are becoming untouchable.
- tl;dr-fuck off getty. you completely screwed most of us.lvl_13

They also bought free image libraries like sxc and let them die. Getty is Satan!

I understand the prices are going up, but you get the image in all resolutions available.

Wow, yeah I just logged into my account and had my 55 credits reduced to 11.
Though it appears that you can still score a few 1 credit images if you scour through the archives, all and all it's disadvantageous for those of us that only purchase photos for use on the web.
If you guys know of alternative services that you've been digging lately I'd love to hear them.

They even removed the price filter tool to help you find the few lower cost ones.

BTW you can get 5 images, of any/all resolution available for $49 at ShutterStock. So that is 5 for the 1 you now get at iStock.

Anyone remember years and years ago before Getty bought iStock. It was such an awesome resource then. I'm surprised that so many of you still use it, I walked away years ago.
- Actually years and years ago it had a lot of shit pics. But it was okay because they were cheap and gems could be found.ETM
- Absolutely true. But I remember a time when the quality had improved significantly, but the prices remained low.noneck
- Then I started seeing shows like Oprah listing iStock in the closing credits, and I new the site was going to be fucked.noneck
- Very true. When Getty first got them, quality also increased and prices only slightly... but they couldn't stop themselves.ETM
- It seemed to creep a little every 3 months until we are where we are today. $50 if you want a little web thumbnail.ETM
- Oh well, the cycle of everything. Underdog becomes leader, find a new underdog.ETM
- Getty claims they couldn;t sustain the model, yet it worked for iStock to the tune of a $50mil sale to Getty.ETM
- So, are they liars, or was their due diligence terrible during the purchase?ETM

http://stocksy.com is by the guy who founded istockphoto I believe.

thinkstock.com is another Getty property, but the search crawls iStock, Getty and a few other libraries. Sometimes it's frighteningly bad, other times? Surprisingly ok. The subscriptions are infinitely reasonable if you're into that kind of thing.
- Cool. I don't think anyone's really into them, more a necessity because of chuff-tight clients.MrT

Photographers (contributors) don't like it either.... from the Forum:
- The obvious question is - will contributors lose out?
- Please answer this. True or False: Contributors will get paid less per sale.
- Can someone point out the benefits of this or how this works?
- iStock may rise, but contributors will fall.
They're afraid and confused over there... 75 pages of comments and counting.
