    • I hope nobody posts that heremonospaced

    • Why doesn't it look real? How many beheadings have you seen in real life?set

I watched a beheading video one time. NSFL, it haunted me for days and days. I'm not sure what purpose it serves, to make me hate or fear? Maybe Queer Eye for the Straight Guy would have the same effect on ISIS?

    • the James Foley one?Ramanisky2
    • no, an older one.epic_rim

I can't watch it. I saw the still of him kneeling there on the front of a newspaper yesterday and even that really affected me. Surprised myself a little bit as to how affected I was by just seeing his face.

I saw one of the beheadings years ago. Never again.

What surprises me is that people will watch the Vice documentary or a Live Leak video and then progress directly to supporting military intervention/bombing campaign (not saying most of you would, but Americans in general).

Most people now seem to realize that we were lied into Iraq War, how the Patriot Act was rushed through etc...but you get the impression that if it happened all over again the hysterical knee jerk reaction would be exactly the same.

  • _niko0

Either way, there is going to be more bloodshed, the hawks are chomping at the bit to get back in there and wreck shit. Is there a diplomatic solution with Isis?

I agree, at the moment they seem to be more hype and media sensationalism, but nobody can deny their meteoric rise from basically nothing. What happens hypothetically speaking if they continue to grow at an exponential rate? They've already emmased a pretty big army, loads of weapons and money, how far fetched would it be that the eventually go nuclear? Elements in Pakistani military for example that are sympathetic to their cause orchestrate a coup and join them?

I know all this is far fetched and that there are too many differing ideologies and ethnicities in the Middle East for a unified caliphate like Isis wants, but I fear that one way or another we're in a big fucking mess.

    Thanks bush

I do like that they're called ISIS. Kind of like COBRA... just sounds like an evil organization.

the reason I asked about the Foley video is because I remember years back when the Daniel Pearl video was made public that something seemed very fake about it.

    • maybe because we see so much fake killing in our everyday entertainment?monospaced
    • perhapsRamanisky2
    • yeah it looks so green screen but most people won't watch it though, just a single frame is enoughGeorgesIV
    • Its more on how the video was edited .. It wasn't a single take is what I meantRamanisky2

Another perspective on this...I'm not saying this post is 100% right but what if the US is using ISIS as pretext to enter Syrian war...

    http://landdestroyer.blogspot.co…

    • So they fight a two front war against Assad and Isis just so they can prop up a moderate, US friendly opposition as the government?_niko
    • ... Government? Worked great in Iraq and Afghanistan.

    Meanwhile in Saudi Arabia..

"Saudi Arabia has beheaded at least 19 people since the beginning of August in a surge of executions, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) has said...Mohammed bin Bakr al-Alawi was beheaded on 5 August for allegedly practicing black magic sorcery"

    They our friends though, right?

I'm so fuckin tired of extremist islamists! I feel it's non stop since 9-11

I can't understand how people can reach a level of hates and violence of that order towards other humans. Islamist that want to destroy the Western world. I'm so tired of 'em.

Life is so short, why do they waste so much time hating in the name of a religion.

Obama was right, they are a cancer.

    • and like cancer, they grow more powerful and reach farther...hate is a powerful, and easy, motivatorformed

And we all know 9-11 part II is coming. We dont know where or when. Could be in usa, canada, france... Many places at same time.

Is it normal since 9-11 almost everytime i take the public transport i think of a terrorist attack? Im taking public transport 6 months/year. I dont feel fear, i just think about it.

The modern world has leapt forward in an incredible way over the last 10-20 years - yet we have these barbaric morons holding the human race back. That is exactly what they are doing, and it's such a cluster fuck of history where all sides are to blame. These bickering stubborn children will never move forward. Rape, kill, murder and plunder on a mass scale seems to be the best option for oue evil human species time and time again. My only hope is not in government, but in corporations and technology, in $$$ and communication, paving the way to progress. Though even then the military is highly privatised, and the real deal fat cats up the top don't give a shit about "us". So the cycle continues. Man. Such a mess.

Also the older I get, the more I hate religion. I'm a believer. But only see false profits, egotistical posers and war mongering fuckwits controlling the masses. Religion needs to die. Spirituality needs to awaken.

    • the barbarians will catch up to technology.. they always do. it's their MENTALITY that won'thotroddy
    • yeah, they have money and intelligence, they have technology too, just not advanced weapons (yet)formed
    • Agreeset
  • formed0

I've had this debate a bunch of times, as we all probably have. I don't think $$$ and communication will help much. I'd almost think it would make things worse, as the "barbarians" will leverage both and take advantage of the so many people out there without cause, that feel useless, easy prey.
I used to think education and money (better infrastructure, communication, etc.) would help, but it seems "they" prefer to have billions and live as "barbarians", taking the money and putting it into weapons. This is dangerous and pretty terrifying.

So far, they are succeeding. Everywhere I read, more and more people are calling for Muslims to call out extremists, yet so far there is no visible effort, which leaves everyone lumping all muslims into the same category. This, of course, is part of the goal - us vs. them.

Don't know what the answer is besides more intelligence (and lack of privacy) to stop any Americans or others that could be convinced to do things inside our borders. I agree that more people that have any knowledge need to speak up (which is scary in its own right, but I can't think of a better solution).

Who knows, maybe this is all further propaganda to start another war, or reduce our privacy.

It's all starting to make me very uncomfortable. Far more then Al Qaeda's rhetoric has since September 11.

The biggest thing on my mind with this new threat is the fact that we have a child on the way in January. She's our first. And it is just frightening to think of what the world could be like if so much turns bad. At this very moment, I am standing on a rocky beach in Maui, taking long exposure photos but generally just enjoying my last night in this beautiful place. The incredible stars, the sound of the waves, just standing here in this darkness thinking constantly how beautiful this world is, and balancing that against the thought of how much some people want to destroy it. It is very stressful, and if you let it get to you it takes so much out of you. It's hard to think of living in a world so great yet with so much evil.

What is this all going to be like in one year? Five years? 10 years? 18 years? What opportunities might see you never have if things get bad beyond our imagination? How might we struggle as a family, as a society? It's very tough to think through those thoughts.

I have this feeling that it is only a matter of time before several unfriendly countries realize that differences need to be put aside and they need to collectively battle the terrorism that as a threat to everyone. I am hopeful that we will see some Muslim countries come together with the United States to defeat this group, realizing first and foremost that we are all human beings living in this world together, and that there is no place for such barbaric hate no matter what your religious beliefs.

Some of these last posts are so stupidly simplistic. "We need to put aside our differences and eliminate this terrorist threat." Kill the barbarians etc in the name of progress. Blah blah blah.

There will always be a terrorist threat. It stops being terror when you stop wringing your panties over your children. When you stop believing that the one or two retard teenagers with RPGs who suddenly get a Vice soapbox and talk about killing the western world don't represent the millennia of accumulated culture and knowledge in the region.

None of what I've heard so far takes any step towards trying to understand why they and other fundamentalists behave this way. All you say is "they need to be stopped". Strange when you consider this comes from so-called designers and problem solvers who are trained to see things from different angles.

    • I think we were just talking about how to solve this. Problem is, hate is an easy motivator, and with so many feeling like they have no purpose in life, an unfair world, etc.formed
