I tried to upgrade and install Mavericks on my computer but got the message:
"Install Failed: OS X could not be installed on your computer. OS X can't be installed on the disk because a recovery system can't be created. Visit www.apple.com/support/no-recover…... to learn more".
I read that page, but don't understand. I have an external drive with time machine. What could be wrong?

Buy a new mac, quick

- Do you have enough space free on your internal HDD for a recovery system?
- Try unplugging your external HDD, maybe OSX tries to build a bootable system there

You'll need to format your new HD to Mac OS Extended (journaled) using disk utility before installing - I think. Or wash it in the sink. That usually fixes most of my problems.

If you have a backup then I'd create a bootable USB stick of the installer

(Follow the use Disk Utility one)Completely re-format and re-partition the drive.
