Are they still relevant?
When do you email someone a .eps instead of an .ai or .pdf?
What about when you embed a vector logo into an Indesign file, what format is best if it matters?

When they specifically ask for it?
- I hate when they ask for .eps files for multi-page pieces, or anything with a photomonospaced

- .ai can't do artboards/pages?CyBrainX

by embed, do you mean copy&paste the vectors from illy to Id -- or are you importing the eps/ai into an indesign frame?
- end result is the same, and it doesn't matter much anymoremonospaced
- i prefer importing -- that way if the logo, or whatever, changes I only need to update the ai fileGnash
- I can get sloppy and forget to change it on one of the pages if it's not linked
Gnash - makes sensemonospaced

plus -- if the ask for an eps it's likely only because they haven't updated their workflow in 10 years.
the only people that ask me for eps still are sign shops and the occasional printer in china.

Is it just me, or are .eps and other postcript files the most difficult thing for computers to deal with? Output an .eps, and it takes forever to open/convert it in any normal software.

the answer is in your heart

the general consensus is, use ai files -- unless they ask for an eps. (just confirm that the colour space of the ai matches your intended use - cmyk vs rgb).
Whether you paste the vector into Indesign, or import into a frame, will result in the same output (unless there are fancy illy effects - then import). depends on your workflow and preference.

It's probably a habit, but I always save out logos as .eps 8.0
