Are meta keywords still relevant?
Besides meta name="description", is there anything else like that a site should have in the head?

A real-life developer I know told me description and keywords are still very relevant, despite what the Internetz tell you.

Supposedly not but what have you got to lose? I still use them.

engines de-prioritized keywords years ago but i always toss in that tag for good measure.

silly question. use them for what they are supposed to.
Metadata is data (information) about data, as the definition says.
And don't forget the viewport meta, that's used in virtually any mobile version of a website.
