Chicago or NYC

I have an opportunity to work with some awesome people in both cities. I'm really torn about these places: I feel that there's a ton of great opportunity in NYC - same with Chicago (only a bit different). The thing that gets me about NYC is the cost of living, compared to Chicago. As much as I love NYC, I can't help but feel like I'm paying a premium for conveniences that aren't really that valuable. I dunno, what do you guys think?

nyc open 24 hours a day.. those premiums you speak of fall into that.. able to have anything delivered 24 hours a day.. you will hve more choices to entertain yourself in nyc as well.. plus nyc pizza rules and chicago pizza is an acquired taste.. plus more opportunities in nyc than anywhere else in usa.. think about all the future networking you can accomplish.. in nyc vs chicago..
i like chicago, but nyc is home.
my 2¢

Do you know people in either city? Have you lived in either? Everyone should live in NYC for some time at least. If they pay more than apt + fun expenses, just go to NYC.

I've visited NYC and really loved it. My wife like Chicago. But, you guys are right. NYC has way more neat things, plus lasers.

Chicago...opportunity is everywhere...why put with new york. Chicago is a great town...new york pizza is soggy grease

If you accidently step foot in williamsburg, you'll die from irony and apathy...what a godforsaken place

If the pay is exactly the same for both jobs then do Chicago. Otherwise nyc kicks it's ass in most ways.

Both have horrible weather but NEVER live in a city that has "lake effect" in it's forecast. You will pay. Whatever Chicago has that's awesome, and there is a lot, NYC had much much more of the same.

good luck.

nicer architecture in chicago, a little slower paced and a little friendlier, a little less hipsters and a little less douchebags.
new York has slightly better restaurants but what's the point, it's impossible to get into them.
If you like sports all teams play inside the city as opposed to new york , where some play in a swamp others scattered in different boroughs.

Did you visit both places? Both of them have a decidedly different feel... I recommend spending a few days in both. I love Chicago...NYC is pretty amazing.
Only thing more expensive in NYC is the rent (and don't even think of buying a home), but it's pretty insane. Pay is higher as a result, though (usually).

Personally, I'd rather be in Chicago for the pace of life, despite the terrible weather.

I've never lived in New York, but I've been in Chicago for 12 years so I've got to say Chicago.

Shit gets real fast here in New York. We recently had a tattoo parlor in bed-stuy get robbed of $1000, all their flat screens and computers stolen, and the robbers thought it'd be a good idea to rape one of the customers before they escaped the scene.
Also recently Menachem Stark was kidnapped outside his office in Williamsburg. The search for an abducted Brooklyn landlord came to a gruesome end when his smoldering body was found in a dumpster outside a Long Island gas station.

Chicago is a slightly bigger better Boston / Toronto.
New York is New York. There is nothing like New York.

If you are not sure... just Google it

These are all really great insights. Hmm...
