Been thinking about buying some canvases recently and getting into painting as a way to vent creativity instead of sitting in front of a computer screen designing or making music.
My painting skills are not that great, it was design & multimedia I specialised in at Art College but when I see utter SHITE like the work of David Ostrowski it fills me with a happy feeling knowing that I can do much much better.
Whether i'd be able to sell my work is another thing though. Perhaps i'd have to fill myself with the pure bullshit that artists like this use to justify their work or inspiration, get to know some people with galleries and persuade them to sell my stuff then once you command one ridiculous price for one painting, that then sets "the cost of your work".
It's not the skills or what you know, it's pure bullshit and who you know.- "b-b-but muh realism"animatedgif
- good luck with that but trust me artists are v.rarely bullshitters and I bet he spent years reaching that point in his workfadein11

This is a topic that pops up often on QBN. I think one of the main reasons for the People of QNB's outrage towards towards contemporary art comes from the fact that you consider yourselves as artists. The definition of art can be very broad, I think you can call yourselves artists if that makes you happy. But some of you will consider yourselves as part of the "artworld" (c.f. Danto's institutional theory of art) when in fact you have very little interest in it. From most of your posts I can see that what you value most if manual skill and the amount of time spent on a piece. If retinal art is where you draw the line, the so be it. I know multiplication and division is where I drew the line on mathematics but I don't claim that all new mathematical theories are bullshit just because I don't get them. I am no expert in art and hadn't heard of Ostrowski previously so I prefer not make any judgement on the value of his work, even after looking at the 3 images and and reading that "article". It could just be that he knows the right people and goes to the right parties: http://www.simonleegallery.com/a…
Light some candles and do some oil paints if that's going to take some steam off but don't mix this and that.

Art is game. You have to know some key people, you have to go to some key events. And you need to play the game. A lots of great artists will never be seen by large public because they refuse or just dont know how to take part in the game.
