I'm an Android user and I just got the HTC One, now I'm starting to design for iPhone apps.
I really need to "test" how it looks on an iPhone so I guess I'm going to have to get two phone lines.
Do any of you guys have two phones for testing apps/interface or do you have another alternative rather than getting two cell platforms??
Do you work for yourself? At the company I work for we basically have a bunch of phones we can pick up and test our designs on. If you're on your own or your company won't spend the coin for phones to test on, buy an iPhone 5 and you might be able to write it off. It does make a difference throwing designs onto the device to see how everything's going to look.
ipod touch looks and pretty much works the same
would that work?
You can buy one and not get service and just use Wifi.
eBay an old iPhone.
If you're a serious designer, of course you got to test it in real life. That's like going to a press check or not testing something on PC.
you could just buy a used one and test via wi-fi... no reason to add the expense of a second phone line if you have wi-fi access (unless you'e specifically testing DL speeds for 3G/4G/LTE networks)
as for having 2 phones... i'm fortunate to have my brother's phone handy anytime I need to test on Android... I def. need more than just my iphone for testing. The Emulators out there aren't that bad... keep in mind too that there is a difference in screen size between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5 (I kept my old iphone 4 and test with it often as there are tons of folks who have yet to move-up to the iphone 5)
simulators never work right.
I bother friends and use theirs. Helps that I live with a load of people who have a fairly comprehensive array of phone and tablets types.
why not just get an ipod touch
You can use simulators, emulators, stimulator and vibrators but nothing is better than testing your product with the real hardware. Buy one. </thread>
How has this thread not ended after the words "iPod Touch"???
i have the latest ipod touch, get one-a those
Second hand Touch!
iPod touch is enough as long as you don't need to test 3G functionality
