fresh out the oven today. they've beefed it up like beefaroni with fancy new features. also there's a neato logic remote ipad app. i'm thinking of picking it up. been kinda waiting for this to drop. anyone playing with it? love it, hate it?

Looks pretty. I know some serious audio engineers who swear by ProTools though.
- Well protools is a bit more high end than Logic, more features, more expensive. Logic is more for amateur putting shit together at home.CygnusZero4
- at home.CygnusZero4
- You have no clue what you are talking about.severian
- I use Logic Pro every day buddy boy. It is not Pro Tools.CygnusZero4
- I have never even been to a real studio that uses logic. They use pro tools.CygnusZero4
- Studio will have ProTools if an artist requests it. Logic is more suited for composition, not tracking or mixing.ltjohnrambo

Looks awesome at first glance. I've been meaning to start recording more lately and work on some new solo songs. Might have to make the upgrade, but I remember the previous upgrade process to be quite a pain to just make sure all files are installed, old stuff removed, etc. in fact I don't think I ever removed all of 8 because I was afraid it would affect certain things - like the sound packs and audio files.
Did anyone else remove 100% of 8 when they upgraded to 9? If I recall, the upgrade version didn't come with ALL the files, so the samples and sound packs from 8 were still needed. Would love some clarification on that.

I've also really been wanting to go take a one-month class at the Apple store to learn some logic basics that I might have missed in using it for the past few years. Midi stuff and editing especially.
- that'd be a great thing to do imoprophetone
- Yeah, they're free, one class a week.mg33
- i should see if this exists at the Vancouver storeprophetone

it is pretty. the logic nerds were worried it was going to become a glorified garageband+ toy app but clearly they've stuck to the pro audio thing here and made some improvements to boot. i was waiting to see what they were going to do with it and i'm pleasantly surprised i guess.
- Still skeptical after the whole Final Cut X debaclelocustsloth
- well kinda apples and oranges. they excluded an industry standard feature there, here it's all the same junk incl. +prophetone
- but this thing may be buggy mc buggerson who knows. i'm holding off for a minute to see feedback.prophetone

i was waiting to ditch pro tools is what it boils down to...

Prophet1 - do you have a nice big monitor? It is a joy using Logic on my Thunderbolt Display. That ipad app would be a nice add on.
- i have the 24" led display which is great but the native res could be better imo...prophetone
- but my mac pro will prob be toast in the next osx or two, it almost was with the last oneprophetone
- so maybe the res-tastic giant imac is in my futureprophetone

Nice and only $199
- well yeah, i have pro tools 8 and i can spend $$$ to get it updated or spend $ and dive into logic. good value.prophetone

damn, no upgrade option from 9? - which, in terms of bugs and new features. definitely the worst logic i've owned...
- They've been doing this for awhile now. It Sucks

Did anyone find out what the download size is yet?
- "Minimum 5GB of disk space. 35GB of optional content available via in-app download."prophetone
- apparently the app is 650MB then the add-ons factor inprophetone

Prophetone,
Are you going to get it soon? I'd really love to know what process you go through to upgrade, especially since this sounds like a full new version. As I said above, I cringe more on this upgrade process than any other software. In particular, I'm curious what the "optional content" is - maybe it's jam pack files like came with Logic 8?
I feel like the logic 9 upgrade leveraged sound files from 8. There weren't as many disks for the 9 upgrade as the full 8. So with X being a digital download, really unsure what makes sense to fully remove or install.
I guess the short of is this: will you fully remove 9 to install X, or install X over it? Thanks!
- 9 provided most all the same sound files as 8, but they were smaller because they weren't losslessly compressed.evilpeacock
- i'm a bad example. my most recent logic purchase was in the 90's with 5.5! i have pro tools 8. this would be a fresh install.prophetone
- but i'm prob biting the bullet tonight after i read some more reviews and forums to see if it's sweet or bugaliciousprophetone
- i know logic 9 had it's issues and major delays to fix them from the apple. hopefully this is better.prophetone

Thanks > ^
Not sure when I'll upgrade it but I will when I have a need for it. I'm hoping to start recording a lot more instrumental music soon to build up my portfolio for (hopefully) putting it out there for use in short films or scoring something. A good friend in LA is an actor and might be looking to me soon for some music on something they're working on. I think my band days are over (was in a band here in Chicago for 4-5 years until 2010) and my goal has always been to get into scoring, soundtrack, instrumental stuff. I really want to learn a lot more about using Logic but particularly get better at electronic/ambient stuff, and mixing. I'm sort of the way there, there's just so much to learn and so little time lately (even being out of work). I tend to write/record more in the winter.
- Here is my band's album, and a few of my own songs (rough versions). I sing and play guitar.mg33

- you sound like me. not necessarily scoring but i've been more into ambient/atmosphere stuff. thanks james blake!prophetone
- and need to get better at mixing too. free time is a premium commodity tho and i have lots of to-do fun projects to do.prophetone
- lots of ideas, no time!prophetone
- Same here. I feel like all my time on computer is now for ExpeditionBureau, or editing my own photos.mg33
- Several classes here in Chicago. Something like this would be cool.
http://www.logicproc…mg33 - I'd really love to perfect my workflow so I'm better able to get ideas out, rather than feel like 80% learning, 20% idea capture.mg33
- I like your stuff a lot. What reverb are you using? It sounds really lush.ltjohnrambo
- Thanks! On the album or solo stuff? If album, that's all amp reverb. If solo, I'll have to check Logic.mg33
- I've never had a reverb pedal, my home setup is guitar>effect pedals > Duet > Logic.mg33
- I was talking about the link you posted in this thread. Specifically the guitars. That's all amp spring reverb? Very nice!ltjohnrambo
- Can you let me know which songs?mg33

Logic X is 64bit only, this is a bad thing for those using 32bit plugins.
As for these Pro Tools & Logic debates...come on now people...surely you guys are experienced enough now to know that its not the software, its how you use it.
Yes Pro Tools HD is great for mixing and post production, but for pre-production and creating tracks it sucks, still...and then thats not to say Logic is the MUST HAVE for pre, its all about what you're comfortable with, every program has its own success stories where creativity triumphs over all...let us not forget Skrillex used FL Studio, Kanye even used an MPC, fuck it Timbaland even made a track once with two pencils and a cup.
You tend to find those that argue over software rarely use it for the right reason, to be creative.
- no arguments here. in fact one of my fun projects is forcing my atari st into a rack w/ LCD screen for Cubase midi.prophetone
- so like i'm taking it back to 1991 with that midi rufneck bidnessprophetone
- for me, i personally haven't never felt warm and fuzzy w/ pro tools. so it's a warm sweater feeling i want heading back to logic.prophetone
- logic. your are right tho arguing is for gas faces. not sure if anyone was arguing tho just 'nerding' out.prophetone
- because by default, if you are on here posting stuff, you're a nerd. we all are. had to be said.prophetone

So, are Native Instruments plug-ins 32bit?
