A phone nobody has seen, let alone tested (prototype expected in August), for the price of a solid modern handset.
I read an article recently, a generic Android tablet costs $60 a piece in Shenzhen, China if you order a few thousand. How much does a generic handset cost wholesale then, $100? Let's conservatively say $200, i.e. €150.
This leaves them with a €200 margin, multiplied by 5000 units.
This gives us... a million Euro with the only own investment being a website.
I salute the people who came up with the idea, fair play to you.
- Ah, it's €325 not €350, my bad.shaft
- ...... no set up costs or design costs or development costs at all nope none of that. Just a website and off you go.chossy
- Also it's not a generic phone it's a phone with items reliably and sympathetically sourced.chossy
- It's a generic model, it's been developed already. Order 5K, the factory will mod the casing and stamp your logo.shaft
- and the stuff inside the phone?chossy
- They sure can get parts from non-conflict areas as they prolly already do.shaft
- Generic hardware has been well developed and is often sold as quite usable rip-offs, like: http://www.fastcardt…shaft
- Wages in Shenzhen today can match those in parts of EU and surely their purchasing power is higher.shaft
- A Foxconn worker can support a large family, a factory worker in Bulgaria or Slovakia is barely scraping.shaft

I'm quite taken by it, but I will wait until it's been out for a few months to see how it fairs, like the dual SIM and also like the micro SD card expansion doo da.
- Dual-sim is sort of a tell-tale for a generic phone designed for Asia/Africa.shaft
- New mid range Sony Xperia has dual sim.chossy
- Dual SIM seems to be a great idea, work phone and personal phone rolled into one.chossy
- Sure it is, it's the carriers who have been blocking sales of dual-sims in the West.shaft

- so?monospaced
- so, logo is shit.dbloc
- so is Apple's logo, makes no difference ;)monospaced
- agree to disagree. I thought you were a designer are you backing shit logos now?dbloc
- this looks like something I would do for horrible logosdbloc
- i shit on logoutopian
- It does. It's shit. It mattersset
- I agree, it's shit. I'm not backing it and I don't know how got that idea. It just doesn't make a fucking shred of differencemonospaced
- yes it does a difference. What industry are you in to say something like that? Shame on you sirESKEMA
- I have to agree with eskemaset
- it does a differenceset
- Yes, I'm a designer. I also think people overrate the importance of a logo sometimes.monospaced
- 1955 called, it wants it's drive-in logo backZOOP
- that's the first and last time i will ever do that... :|ZOOP
- IT DOES A DIFFERENCE !!set

So you don't care that it's a phone they say up front only exists as a wish list of features on a website.
But when the logo is shit... hmm... something's fishy...

ergonomics are out the window. if you make a simple phone make it fit the human hand ffs

Some of the listed features of the phone are not having stuff:
- Minimal packaging
- Chargers & accessories are NOT included... unless you pay €7.50 for a charger worth (my guesstimate) 50 cents wholesale at the factory.
