It's a choice I've also been considering. UI & web design rather than motion though but a bit burned out by it here. Drawn in by the cool-looking landscape and change of pace.

www.resn.co.nz — the only shop I've ever heard of from NZ, never having been there.
- They're digital, though.Continuity
- Yeap, exactly, I saw that too...Fabricio

Yeah, I think for VFX and digital, NZ is going quite strong... but motion design itself.. not much going on it seems...

Hey Fabrico, hows it going! At the moment the industry is in a really confident position over here - the economy is on the up!
I work here > www.designworks.co.nz
We are constantly on the look out for motion people as our motion dept is growing, but I've also got plenty of contacts at lots of agencies around Auckland. Feel free to message me if you've got and questions, I'll help as much as I can : )

Your best bet is to freelance. The industry as a whole is pretty dead due to the recession. I haven't heard of anyone hiring anyone on a full time basis for ages. Also New Zealand is an industry where kind of do everything. Not many specialise but it's also not unheard of. You could try the ad agencies the might point you in the right direction. Auckland and wellington are the biggest markets too. Be tough to find a job in the south Island.

Yeah, this is my problem right now: I am more than happy to stay as a freelancer... but right now, I need a job to get the right visa, etc... and be able to stay in NZ..
But I think you are super right Sothere.... the studios I could find, were not very keen on hiring someone, its mostly freelance, etc... so maybe I need to drop this NZ idea... :( Its a shame, i would love to live there...

These guys are some of the best in NZ.

There's plenty of motion places around, and post houses.
There's also no shortage of work right now.
Come over.

Hey, thanks guys,
Yes, I spoke to the guys at Assembly, but they are not taking anyone right now...Maybe I should just get over with.. and fly to New Zealand, with a bit of savings, and try my luck... I will probably do that in April... will see!

Hey Leon, you are friends with Kylie, from Melbourne right?
She went once to Copenhagen ages ago, and I took her to a party in the city, I think it was 2010?Will see about New Zealand, I am definitely tempted, but since I am already 32... I dont feel like doing a big adventure, of arriving there empty handed, with no job offer... But maybe thats something I should do eh? Will see... around April or May...

Just a small bump on this old thread of mine, to ask:
How is the motion design scene in New Zealand?
I've searched for some cool studios over there, but the whole thing seems a bit "dead"? Aside from the guys at Assembly, and Oktobor, it doesnt have much options?Yes, I am thinking of moving to New Zealand, been trying to find cool ways to do it, and there is the option of going there on tourist visa, and trying to score a job there, and not having to leave the country with to apply for a new work visa... but yeah, there isnt much going on it seems? I know its a small country.. but I hoped there would be more cool motion design studios there...
Are there any kiwis on QBN that can confirm this?
