So Im not a total AE expert. I need to build a video in full 1080p HD that will be played off a laptop on a screen before a conference.
So many damn composition presets in here. Anyone have any idea what I should be using? Square pixels shit confuses me.

Do what both of these guys said and you'll be fine.
Don't forget compressing the video in either photojpeg or h264 chances are the laptop won't be able to play the video if it's uncompressed

Square pixels if it's a computer, non-square is a broadcast thing.

for playback purposes on a laptop you probably dont need 1920x1080, more like 1280x720 or even 960x540 slightly blown up to fit to screen in quicktime. h264 or mp4 for playbacks fine but be careful with compression as vector files tend to compress fucked up. if its photographic you will be fine. even if you arent uploading it there, vimeo has great compression setting suggestions for high quality low file size (and fast playback) movies.
