wordpress/CDN/scalability?

Ha - I'm configuration the W3 Cache Plugin right now and learning about this stuff as well.

How much traffic are you talking about? I was managing a Wordpress install that was easily getting more 100-200K uniques a day with no issues. It was running with on the Thesis Framework with SuperCache plugin if I remember. It was hosted in a top class datacenter, but I don't even think it was a running on a dedicated server.

it's not so many hits per day as it is a SHIT TON at exactly 1 minute or so.... lots of PR and news/social media/etc announce a major announcement at an exact time, we get a huge spike for 1 minute... 10,000 attempted connections within 5 minutes or something like that....then an hour or so later, it's pretty much back to normal....

also note that there are various ways to edge-cache, but we have an odd requirement that we have to NOT allow anyone to see the content before it goes live... at exactly the right time, so the pre-caching methods of many CDN's are not quite built with that assumption...
